Volunteer for the 6th annual Winter Chill Adaptive Tennis Tournament

Saturday, December 7th

NCSU J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center

Would you like to get involved in one of the most incredible events put on by Abilities Tennis Association?

What makes this event incredible?  Not only do we have 6 teenagers volunteering many hours organizing and running this event, we have the NC State Women’ Tennis team, Adopt a Unit (USTA military outreach) and depend on around 130 volunteers all to make a special day for our adaptive athletes. This year we are expecting around 90-100 athletes from all over NC and one from SC.   The NC State Women’s tennis team are officials during the day and then partner with the  athletes for Unified Doubles competition.

For the 2nd year we are adopting a military unit. Last year we sent over 300 pairs of socks and notes written by the athletes to a unit in Afghanistan.

One of the goals of Abilities Tennis, formerly Adaptive Tennis Association of NC,  is to offer opportunities for people with Intellectual Disabilities to compete in tennis. Whether you can barely hold a racket in your hand to high level play, we want them out on the tennis courts. The athletes are the stars of the day and they love it. For the past year we have been going into WCPSS working with PE teachers, Special Ed teachers and the PEPI program to bring adaptive tennis to the special needs classes. We have had wonderful success and we are hoping many of those students will come out for this event.
