Tournament News
Saturday will start with player sign-in at 9:30am. Match play will start at 10am. The morning will see Singles competition (both short court and full court). In the afternoon, athletes will participate in fun Unified/Partnered Doubles (both short court and full court).
Skills Clinic News
In addition to the tournament we will be holding a Skills Clinic. If you are a new or beginning athletes with intellectual disabilities come on our and join the fun from 10:30 am–Noon and from 1 pm-3 pm. Attend one session or both – it’s all up to you!
Special Olympics Coaches Certification Training
At 1pm, a Special
Olympics Coaches Certification Training will be held for anyone wishing to assist or coach Abilities Tennis or Special Olympics tennis programs in the future. This training provides information on coaching athletes with intellectual disabilities and teaches drills and games to conduct at clinics. No prior coaching experience is needed. Coaches must be at least 18 years old to be a certified coach. Anyone age 14 years and up is welcome to attend the certification training. Tennis Carnival
The fun never ends at the “Swing into Spring” event. At 4pm a Tennis Carnival will be held for all registered athletes and partners. Athletes and partners hit tennis balls for a chance to win prizes.
Volunteers needed
We are in need of volunteers for this event. You do not need to be a coach or have any tennis experience.
We need scorekeepers, ballboys/girls, photographer, tournament desk personnel, and tennis players to act as teachers/coaches (teaches basic instruction to our skilled/beginning Athletes in the clinics).

4th Annual Charlotte Challenge Adaptive Tennis Tournament
Athletes of all ages are invited to participate in friendly tennis competition.
Participants will compete in one of three ability levels:
- Beginner: (“Skills”). Small court, foam balls, coach feed.
- Intermediate: (“Short Court”). Small court, foam ball – singles play.
- Advanced: (“Match Play”). Full court, regular balls – singles play.
In addition to singles, “Short Court” and “Match” players will participate in “Unified Doubles”: This is an extremely rewarding format for both volunteers and athletes. Volunteers with tennis experience can sign up to be paired with an athlete as a doubles team.
DATE: Saturday, March 29th, 2014
TIME: 10:30 AM – 5:00 PM (Lunch will be provided for all Athletes and coaches)
Hosted by: The Abilities Tennis Association of North Carolina (ATANC), the Charlotte Tennis Association (CTA), and the Charlotte Special Olympics tennis program.
There will be no entry fee to participate in this event!
